ANALYSIS OF OFFICIAL COMMERCIAL FEED SAMPLES REPORT

 

This report contains a summary of the feed samples collected in the State of Hawaii and analyzed for manufacturer’s guarantees or feed adulterants in 2002. 

Commercial feed being sold or offered for sale in the State of Hawaii must be registered with the State Department of Agriculture, in accordance with Chapter 144, Hawaii Revised Statutes, and Chapter 4-45, Hawaii Administrative Rules.

Feed in sacks or bulk, located at the wholesale and retail sources, farms, or in container vans at the pier were sampled by the personnel of the Commodities Branch, Department of Agriculture, State of Hawaii.

Samples were submitted for proximate analysis to the Agricultural Diagnostic Services Center, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, the designated laboratory to perform the analysis for the State of Hawaii. Each of the analysis performed utilized method of analysis established by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists.

In 2002, of the 66 samples submitted, there were 50 samples analyzed for additional mineral label guarantees and 12 samples of custom mixed feed. Those samples which failed to meet the manufacturer’s label guarantee in accordance with the permitted analytical variables are marked with an asterisk.

The Chemical Analysis Laboratory, Department of Agriculture, State of Hawaii analyzed 194 samples screened for pesticide contaminants and including 34 samples analyzed for additional aflatoxin contaminants. None of the samples exceeded the tolerances or action levels set forth by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and Food and Drug Administration.
