Taxi Meters Must Be Inspected by May 31, 2005

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) is reminding all Oahu taxi drivers that they must have their taximeters registered and inspected by the Quality Assurance Division's Measurement Standards Branch (MSB), before May 31, 2005.  The department will not mail out inspection notices to taxi owners.

The MSB will begin inspecting taximeters on Oahu, beginning March 28, 2005. Inspections will be performed Monday thru Friday (except State holidays), between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at MSB, which is located near Sand Island at 1851 Auiki Street.  Inspection will be done on a first-come, first-served basis during inspection hours.

Taximeter inspection involves running the taxi through a pre-measured course to determine that the meter is working properly, helping to ensure that riders are accurately charged for their fare.
