THREE BLUE TROPIX MONKEYS TURNED OVER TO
STATE AND SENT TO HILO ZOO

HONOLULU - Three squirrel monkeys under permit to the owner of Blue Tropix Nightclub were voluntarily turned over to the Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) on Wednesday (Jan.19).  The monkeys were shipped to the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo in Hilo Wednesday night and reportedly arrived in good condition.

Bond in the amount of $2,000 per animal that was required as a condition of the permit will be returned to the permittee.

Under Hawaii law, primates, including monkeys, are only allowed for import and possession in the State under a permit with specific conditions set by HDOA and approved by the Hawaii Board of Agriculture.
